6AM Saturday July 28th a truck a trailer a driver and five bikes with seven riders headed to Ground Zero for the 6th annual Ground Zero Independence run to benefit Tuesdays Children and Anderson House. It looked like it was going to rain any minute all the way in and an hour or so after we arrived the skies cleared and the sun shined brightly. Thank you HP. My guess is somewhere around 600 or so bikes rolled into NYC to ride up to a beautiful rustic outdoor catering facility called Kruckers in Pomona NY which is near Bear MT. My buddy Ski commandeered me and Dyna to road captain along with the rest of the already assembled crew. After getting instructions and placement I just stood in front of the WTC cross and said a prayer and then turned around to stare at the site of the former twin towers. I welled up as I thought of that day and my friend Eric Eisenberg and all the people I know who knew someone in the towers when they fell. I also remembered what is was like to be on the air during the weeks that followed as we communed and felt through our emotions as a Long Island family with the power of words and music. The run was great all the way up and road captaining was a blast. We rolled into Kruckers to the sounds of the Allman Brothers tribute “The Brothers of the Road Band” followed by the four fingered fret fryer Dan Lawson and his band. It was on this run that I looked down and watched my odometer hit 50,000 miles and I couldn't think of a better time for that to happen. Even though I am in the middle of recovering for a terrible house fire and other heavy crap my spirit soared during that run. Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you deal with it. So hit the road crank a tune and deal with it. On the air and in the wind. Fingers
