 late fall, early in the AM is the best time by far. No boat traffic to deal with. It's a low speed, twisty  - turney scoot very relaxing & scenic. Beautiful houses, landscaping, tree lined properties ( although the neighbors might not be happy to hear me and my "Sampsons" putt thru )   I try to stay out of the throttle and be respectfull. I hang out on a bench when I get to the beach, ( off season only because I am not a Smithtown resident)  take in some sun and appreciate what I consider to be the best of living ( and playing ) on long Island .
